Baška is the best known tourist resort on the island of Krk, the largest island in the Adriatic. It is located on the southeast, in the picturesque and gentle Baška valley that will enchant you with its natural beauties.

It has more sources of drinking water. The small river „Grand River“ (Vela Rika) runs thought it, where in the past there were the seven mills. This valley has fertile soil and greenery, a real oasis of craggy landscape.

The unique pebble beach 2000 m long excels in Baška bay, which is one of the most beautiful in the Adriatic. Opposite the beach a karst mountain Velebit and the island of Prvić rise like guards who watch over this natural beauty.

Having arrived in Baška, you can choose one of the thirty pebble beaches, and there you can get, either on foot or by boat.

Already mentioned Vela plaža (Big beach) is the biggest among them and is located in the center of town. There is Blue flag waving - evidence of exceptional purity of the sea and coast, preserved pleasant environment and equipment and tidiness of the beach. The beach is particularly suitable for children and non-swimmers.

The beaches were the ones to inspire the development of tourism in the early 20th C. In 1908 the first beach on the island of Krk was open in Baška.

A pleasant spring, hot summers, mild autumn and windy winters are the characteristics of Mediterranean climate, which in Baška allows bathing season to be open from May to October with 2500 hours of sunshine.

Such climatic conditions have a special flora. Baška and its surrounding area is rich with rare and endangered plant species: rocambole, Asperula longiflora, Liburnian heather, sage, Borbás woodruff, Spanish broom, yarrow, wormwood...

And in the fauna of the area there are unique species such as little owl, eagle owl, white-backed vulture, snake eagle, peregrine falcon, sea crow...
Autochthonous animal species of this region which is threatened with extinction is donkey. He became so rare that the special program for its preservation is being in preparation.
In Baška waters there are indigenous species: shrimp – the most appreciated Adriatic crawfish, lobster and dentex.

Baška except the natural uniqueness and diversity has a rich historical, cultural and architectural heritage. All this makes it more special, impressive and attractive tourist destination.

Localities that were found discover that Baška has been settled since prehistoric times, and the ruins of the ancient and medieval periods refer to a long cultural and historical tradition of this region.

If you decide to come in Baška many extremely valuable cultural sites will seize your attention, such as: the old core of town, the remains of Roman settlements, sacred monuments (The parish church of Sts. Pentecost, the Church of St. John the Baptist, Church of Our Lady of the Gorica, the Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor ...), Baška tablet (the oldest complete monument chiseled in stone on Croatian language from the 1100. It has a paramount importance for the culture of the Croatian people.
This is a deed of donation carved in 13 lines of text in glagolitic alphabet and says that the Croatian King Zvonimir donated a turf to the Church of St. Lucy), Baška trails of Glagolitic  (dedicated to the Glagolitic script and all Glagolitic priests. This is a project that will run four to five years. Through this project a path of stone sculpture will be formulated, and shall be spread from the Treskavac notch all the way to the waterfront in Old Baška port. It will include 34 stone sculptures inscribed with the Glagolitic alphabet), Town Museum of Baška (contains ethnographic collection of Baška region)...

If you decide for vacation, Baška offers various sporting activities. The Sports Center Zablaće you can play football, table tennis and mini golf. Fans of the sea have here ideal conditions for underwater activities, as well as for water skiing, windsurfing, banana lift..., and fans of free climbing can enjoy the high rocks of two crags.

You are truly a lover of nature, who wants a peaceful, more natural life far from the bustle and stress of everyday life. Take one of the 19 tourist trails - walking trails that follow old pastoral roads totaling over 80 km. They are well regulated, and their map is available in the Baška Tourist Board.

Inhale the smell of Mediterranean plants, explore and get to know the unknown places, enjoy the karst landscape with flora and fauna of rocky ground, lose the breath in front of the magnificent views of Baška green valley, the blue sea or the realm of  limestone, delight many popular examples of indigenous architecture (dry walls, shepherd „mrgars“ , pastoral wells, „hramces“...), which were arisen by hard labor on penurious land, are just some of the experiences that the promenades offer.

One of the tourist attractions of Baška is Aquarium, where you can see more than 100 species of fish and 400 species of mussels and snails.

In Baška is never boring. Something happens constantly.

In May, the already traditional sports - cultural - gastronomic event Black sheep, which is dedicated to a unique Baška sheep, takes place. The Black Sheep program is very varied, rich and free for all guests.

In the early August of each year the Fishermen's Day takes place, a traditional event which is organized since 1910. As part of the Fishermen's Day is also the competition in drawing the net on the beach and plenty of entertainment and folklore.

Cultural Society Šoto from Baška organizes the Folklore and klapa festival entitled "Zasopimo, zatancajmo". Folk groups come from the area of the island of Krk, the Primorje - Gorski Kotar County and the Republic of Croatia. At this festival, you'll be familiar with the original folklore and beauty of cultural heritage as well as the characteristic national costumes of these regions.
